Picture your guests arriving as familiar melodies float through the space.
The room shifts when the processional begins. The music follows the emotion of the moment instead of playing exactly the same way it did during rehearsal. A pause can last an extra breath. A song can gently resolve just as someone reaches the end of the aisle.
Later, during cocktail hour, live piano creates an atmosphere that feels warm, polished, and welcoming, all without overpowering the conversations happening around it.
That is what live music can do.
A playlist plays songs. A pianist reads the room.

Katie learned all of our favorite songs. It was perfect. She even snuck the Pokemon theme song into the cocktail hour after hearing us mention Pokemon Go during our vows.

Yes, I Can Probably Play That
Great news.
You do not need to choose your wedding music from a tiny list of songs someone decided were appropriate in 1987.
I have been playing piano for more than 30 years, and my repertoire crosses genres, generations, and varying levels of musical seriousness.
Think about how it feels to sing along to the radio. You know how the song is supposed to sound, and you sing it.
Playing piano by ear is kind of like that, except the song is playing in my head.
So nothing is off the table.
That can include:
Classical and traditional wedding music (nostalgia anyone?)
Pop and rock
Jazz standards
Broadway
Disney
Movie and television soundtracks
Music from video games
Songs from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s
The oddly specific song that means everything to the two of you
How do you decide what I play?
That depends.
Some couples send me a complete list.
Some give me three must-play songs and permission to have fun.
Others tell me, “Romantic, but not stuffy,” and trust me to figure it out.
All three approaches work.
You are also allowed to change your mind 86 times between now and the wedding. We will build the music around what feels right when the day actually arrives.
Anything? Anything.
Beyond the playlist, one of the favorite things to happen is when a guest walks up to me and hums a few lines.
It’s pretty rare that I won’t get the request. In fact, I’ll probably play it in the key they were humming.
